Worker Killed Cleaning Equipment On Oil Platform
A worker named Jerrel Hancock was reportedly killed in an offshore explosion during a routine maintenance at the Echo oil-and-gas platform of Fieldwood Energy LCC in the Gulf of Mexico.
The accident was attributed by the company to an “isolated pressure event” that occurred while the worker was cleaning a piece of equipment that separates oils from other liquids. One worker also had visible injury while two workers reportedly experienced ringing in the ears.
The worker who died and the other worker who was injured were employed by Turnkey Cleaning Services, a company specializing in cleaning offshore facilities. The incident is already being investigated by Federal regulators.
