Safety Management Strategy For The Future
Safety hazards and accidents are not only very bad for the person being injured but it also looks bad on the company that is responsible.
There is always the unexpected no matter how many good safety practices a company has implemented. When workers get injured for reasons like not wearing the proper safety equipment due to possibly to the PPE being uncomfortable to wear this posses quite a problem for the company. What happens is they now not only have an injured person to deal with but are also short an employee that they will have to hire or pull off another job to fill the void.
As businesses and companies grow along with the accidents that go with it the one benefit is that we learn along the way. What is most important is that the reasons why people get hurt must be documented and safety procedures put in place. In the past it was common practice for employees not to report all their injuries as they did not want lost time accidents. What happen is that because of this practice we do not learn form our mistakes.
If the reason for injuries or near misses is due to safety equipment PPE that is uncomfortable to wear or there seems to be a shortcut people can take to get a job done easier these issues have to be brought open and investigated. This I believe is the future of implementing a better safety culture is through open communication.
