Reasons On Both Sides Why Workers Don’t Use PPE
In certain circumstances It has been discovered that personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, goggles and overalls are not being used by a large enough number of the workforce.
Despite its obvious significance where safety is concerned, employees are opting to attempt working in harsh and dangerous environments without the added protection. A large number of workers claim that the PPE prove to be uncomfortable, hot, unattractive and tend to impede their ability to function normally.
Lack Of Knowledge
These more common and ignorant explanations are accompanied by those deemed to be more logical. Workers posit a lack of knowledge regarding the use and significance of their personal protective equipment.
To address this concern, the responsibility lies with the employer to institute mandatory training procedures and educate workers on the importance of the equipment and how to accurately use it to ensure that safety is maintained.
Reports By Workers
The most unfortunate explanation has been reports by workers about the absence of the proper safety equipment at job sites.
Employers take great risk when this is actually the practice as it is imperative that workers be offered the maximum protection possible while engaged on the job.
It is the responsibility of the employer to inform, educate and maintain the PPE used and the protection it offers. This avoids not only violating mandated safety regulations but ensures ongoing safety for all employees.
