NSA Level 2 Coverall Kit For Electrical Work
When it comes to arc flash protection for electrical live installations, maintenance, repair work or testing the NSA Level 2 Coverall Kit will keep you safe.
When it comes to available protective clothing for arc flash exposures there are shirts and pants combinations, bib overalls with a jacket and one piece coverall suits.
Why would you choose the coverall option over the other choices?
It all comes down to what garments are the most convenient to use especially when a person has to suit up for certain job tasks but not for their everyday work tasks.
A shirt and pant combo is not appropriate at the higher exposure levels above 10 cal or so and in that case a layering system must be used and it also needs to be tested to ensure the garments used actually supply the intended protection one would think they do. You cannot just add the layers together and say yes 5 + 5 = 10 cal as the result could be 5, 10 or 15 cal for example. Also layered fabrics must be tested by a third party testing facility to ensure they will sufficiently withstand the arc flash exposure level in question.
Then there is the bib overall and jacket combo which would work as you know the assigned arc flash protection levels they meet and one would not be considering the layering affect. This is because the bib overall only protects the lower body and a small portion of the upper and the jacket covers the upper section and arms. Also the fact that these garments are usually made with different fabric thickness’s and ratings. For this reason the higher rated protection can be calculated much easier as you are dealing with single layer items and you know the assigned ATPV cal arc rating they are good for.
The problem with this option is that it is more of a chore to get the garments on when they are to be used just for a short duration compared to a coverall that can just be slipped on and is more convenient to wear all the time if need be.
So there you have it from my point of view why you would choose a coverall arc flash kit. The reason why the NSA National Safety Apparel kit is a preferred choice is because this manufacturer provides Made In The USA products, They are of very good quality and their customer support service is excellent.
