Arc Rated Clothing and Working in Near Substations
The 1910.269 standard requires that an arc flash analysis be performed on your equipment now such as the substations on site.
Once the analysis has been performed you will have the approach distance for the arc rated PPE. Being anywhere near a substation a person could still be near the limited approach boundary which can sometimes be a substantial distance even in the 20 -30 foot range. This is could affect certain job tasks that are performed nearby such as grounds maintenance.
Having the correct arc rated clothing even as a base layer is essential.
